Long-stay visas (visas type “D”)

Long-stay visas (visas type “D”) are issued on several different reasons. The following acts and procedures are applicable for all cases:

I. Procedures:
a. The applicant has to be present at the moment of the application and at the moment the visa is issued
b. The applicant may has been called to an interview with the consul on the reasons for which he wants the visa
c. The visas are issued at least 30 days after the application
d. On the application a non-reimbursable tax of 20 euro is paid
e. At the moment the visa is issued, the applicant pays 30 euro visa price
f. The visa is valid for 180 days in a period of six months

II. Acts
a. Passport, valid at least 3 months after the visa expires
b. Copy of the passport – the pages with the photo, personal data and the date of expiry
c. 2 color photographs, passport size (3.5×4.5 cm)
d. Evidence of accommodation in Bulgaria for the period of the visa (contract for purchasing/lending a house or apartment, hotel reservation, etc.)

f. Additional acts may be required at the moment of application, for each specific case

III. Depending on the type of the visa wanted, the following acts are also needed:

1. Working visa
- Work permit, issued by the Employment Agency of Bulgaria
- Bank reference (proof of bank account in a bank in Bulgaria) with at least 1000 euro

2. Business
- Certified copy of a court ruling for entry (of the respective company) in the Commercial register of Bulgaria
- Document, certifying the status of the applicant in the company (if not evident from the court decision)
- Court certificate about the currant state of the company (if registered more than 3 months ago) – original or certified copy
- Certified copy of the tax registration
- Copy of the BULSTAT registration
- Certificate by the local branch of the National Incomes Agency, showing the taxes paid (or to be paid) by the company
- Copies of bank statements, showing the current status of the accounts of the company in banks in Bulgaria
- Certificate from the Ministry of Labor showing the company has at least 10 employees in Bulgaria (not applicable for company owners, citizens of EU and EES member states)

3. Students
- Certificate from the Ministry of Education showing that the applicant has been admitted in a Bulgarian educational institution (for students in first year only)
- Certificate from the respective Bulgarian educational institution showing that the applicant is a regular student (except for the students in first year)
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the student’s living expenses

4. Foreign specialists, residing in Bulgaria on the basis of international agreements
- Evidence form the host organization in Bulgaria that the applicant is residing in Bulgaria on the basis of international agreements
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the applicant’s living expenses

5. Company representatives of foreign companies registered by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI)
- Statement for entry of the respective company in the BCCI register (this document should be issued not earlier than one month before the application)
- Company tax registration document (certified copy)
- Evidence for a bank account on the name of the representative office
- Evidence from the National Incomes Agency that the company has no outstanding payments
- Official authorization by the company whose representative is going to be the applicant
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the applicant’s living expenses

6. Foreigners, who are financially independent parents of foreign citizens, permanently residing in Bulgaria
- Birth certificate of the offspring
- Bulgarian residence card of the person residing in Bulgaria
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the applicant’s living expenses

7. Medical treatment
- Certificate issued by a medical institution containing the applicant’s treatment plan
- Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the applicant’s living expenses (50 euro/day)

8. Correspondents of foreign media, accredited to Bulgaria
- Accreditation document issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

9. Pensioners
- Document, showing that the applicant is entitled to a retirement income, issued by the country of origin and legalized by a notary public. Official translation of this document in Bulgarian
- Bank reference by a bank in Bulgaria, certifying the applicant has a valid bank account in Bulgaria

10. Foreign investors
- Document issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance certifying the investment

11. Members of the family of foreign citizens having a D-visa
- Document certifying the relationship (marriage or birth certificate) – legalized copy (with apostille), certified translation in Bulgarian.
- Copy of the resident’s ID card
- Declaration (public notary certified) from the holder of the D-visa that he/she will provide accommodation and means of the applicant during his/her stay in Bulgaria

12. Free-lance professionals
- Work permit (or a certified copy) issued by the Bulgarian Employment Agency

13. Foreigners whishing to perform non-profit activities
- Certified copy of the permit, issued by the Ministry of Justice OR
- Certificate from the Department of Ecclesiastical Matters of Bulgaria (if the institution is a religious one)

14. Foreigners who have reason to be granted permanent residence in Bulgaria or have married Bulgarian citizen
- Marriage certificate (legalized translation in Bulgarian)
- Documents, proving the reason for permanent residence

15. Members of the family of Bulgarian citizen
- Document certifying the relationship (marriage or birth certificate) – Bulgarian original or legalized translation (if the certificate is in a language other than Bulgarian)

ACTS FOR TRANZIT VISAS

ACTS FOR TRANZIT VISAS
· Passport, valid at least 3 months after the expiration of the visa

· Copy of the passport – page with photo, page with expiration date, pages with valid visas

· Copy of the visa for the next country
· Recent color photo, passport size (3,5 x 4,5 cm)
· Proof of guaranteed means of transport for the transit passage (ticket or 200 euro)

· Proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the subsistence costs for each transit passage, to the minimum amount of EUR 50

· Insurance policy and a copy thereof, with a minimum cover of EUR 30 000, covering the costs of repatriation and of emergency medical care and treatment

· Copy of the Romanian visa or residence card

· Application form

· The visa application shall be submitted not earlier than 3 MONTHS and not later than 3 DAYS prior to the date of the planned trip, either personally or through an authorized representative

Single entry visa

Single entry visa
Application papers:
 Passport, valid at least 3 months after the expiration of the visa
 Copy of the passport – page with photo, page with expiration date, pages with valid visas
 One colour photo, passport size
 Copy of the Romanian residence card, if any
 proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the subsistence costs, to the minimum amount of EUR 50 for each day of the stay as requested by the visa application or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency, but not less than EUR 500 or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency, or a document of pre-paid tourist services;
 proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the accommodation costs, to the minimum amount of EUR 50 for each day of the stay as requested by the visa application or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency, or a document of pre-paid overnight stays in a collective tourist accommodation establishment, or a standard invitation by a Bulgarian natural or legal person whereby the said person undertakes to cover all costs as may arise for the period of stay of the alien within the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria;
 proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the costs of leaving the country, or a ticket and, in the case of entry by means of a motor vehicle operated by the person, a minimum amount of EUR 100 or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency;
 an insurance policy and a copy thereof, issued by an insurance company licensed to conduct insurance business within the territory of the European Union, with a minimum cover of EUR 30,000, covering all costs of repatriation and of emergency medical care and emergency hospital treatment for the period of stay.
 Application form
The visa application shall be submitted not earlier than three months and not later than three days prior to the date of the planned trip, either personally or through an authorized representative.

Taxes and periods of issue
· Ordinary visa – issued in a week – 60 еuros, paid on application
· The taxes are NOT refundable in case the visa is not approved.

Multiple entry visa

Multiple entry visa
A multiple entry visa with a period of validity of up to one year may be issued to an alien subject to the condition that during the last preceding year the said alien had received a short-stay visa and the said visa had been used in accordance with the statutory provisions for entry into and stay in the Republic of Bulgaria and grounds for applying for a multiple entry visa exist;
A multiple entry short-stay visa may be issued to an alien who
1. maintains continuous business contacts with Bulgarian natural or legal persons carrying out economic activity within the meaning given by the Commerce Act;
2. maintains continuous business contacts with Bulgarian legal persons carrying out activity within the meaning given by the Not-for-Profit Legal Entities Act;
3. maintains continuous business contacts with trade representation offices of foreign legal entities registered under Article 24 of the Investment Promotion Act;
4. has made substantial personal contribution to the promotion of bilateral relations with the Republic of Bulgaria;
5. is a family member of a Bulgarian citizen within the meaning given by the Aliens in the Republic of Bulgaria Act;
6. is a family member of a national of a Member State of the European Union, of the European Economic Area or of the Swiss Confederation, who is a long-term resident in the Republic of Bulgaria;
7. is a family member of an alien who is a long-term resident in the Republic of Bulgaria while keeping habitual residence abroad;
8. is an international road transport driver or a member of railway staff on passenger and freight trains.
Application papers:
 Passport, valid at least 3 months after the expiration of the visa
 Copy of the passport – page with photo, page with expiration date, pages with valid visas
 One colour photo, passport size
 Copy of the Romanian residence card, if any
 proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the subsistence costs, to the minimum amount of EUR 50 for each day of the stay as requested by the visa application or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency, but not less than EUR 500 or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency, or a document of pre-paid tourist services;
 proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the accommodation costs, to the minimum amount of EUR 50 for each day of the stay as requested by the visa application or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency, or a document of pre-paid overnight stays in a collective tourist accommodation establishment, or a standard invitation by a Bulgarian natural or legal person whereby the said person undertakes to cover all costs as may arise for the period of stay of the alien within the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria;
 proof of possession of sufficient funds to cover the costs of leaving the country, or a ticket and, in the case of entry by means of a motor vehicle operated by the person, a minimum amount of EUR 100 or the equivalent of this amount in another freely convertible currency;
 an insurance policy and a copy thereof, issued by an insurance company licensed to conduct insurance business within the territory of the European Union, with a minimum cover of EUR 30,000, covering all costs of repatriation and of emergency medical care and emergency hospital treatment for the period of stay. The applicants for a multiple entry short-stay visa shall present an insurance policy solely for the first planned visit.
 The standard invitation, drawn up by a natural person for the issuing of a short-stay visa for the purpose of a private visit by an alien to the Republic of Bulgaria, shall be drawn up in a standard form according to Annex 3 hereto, shall be certified by a notary, and by the aliens’ administrative control authorities, upon presentation of the following documents:
1. a declaration of property status of the inviting party;
2. a certificate of income, issued by the employer of the inviting party, or a copy of a tax return referred to in Article 50 of the Income Taxes on Natural Persons Act for the last preceding year, bearing an incoming reference number from the competent National Revenue Agency territorial directorate.

A standard invitation by a natural or legal person engaged in a business under the Commerce Act for the issuing of a short-stay visa for the purpose of business relations shall be drawn up in a standard form according to Annex 4 hereto, shall be signed and stamped by the inviting party, shall be certified by a notary and by the aliens administrative control services, upon presentation of the following documents:
1. a certificate of current status of the legal/natural person, issued by the Registry Agency according to the procedure established by the Commercial Register Act (maximum period of validity: 3 months);
2. a copy of the tax return of the inviting party for the last preceding year, bearing an incoming reference number from the competent National Revenue Agency territorial directorate.
A standard invitation by a legal person registered under the Not-for-Profit Legal Entities Act for the issuing of a short-stay visa for the purpose of business relations shall be drawn up in a standard form according to Annex 5 hereto, shall be signed and stamped by the inviting party, shall be certified by a notary and by the aliens administrative control services, upon presentation of the following documents:
1. a certificate of current status of the legal person, issued by the competent district court (maximum period of validity: 3 months);
2. a copy of a certificate of registration at the National Revenue Agency territorial directorate exercising competence over the seat of the legal person.
A standard invitation by a trade representation office of a non-resident legal person, registered under Article 24 of the Investment Promotion Act, for the issuing of a short-stay visa for the purpose of business relations shall be drawn up in a standard form according to Annex 6 hereto, shall be signed and stamped by the inviting party, shall be certified by a notary and by the aliens administrative control services, upon presentation of the following documents:
1. a certificate of current status of the trade representation office, issued by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (maximum period of validity: 3 months);
2. a copy of a certificate of registration at the competent National Revenue Agency territorial directorate.
 Application form
The visa application shall be submitted not earlier than three months and not later than three days prior to the date of the planned trip, either personally or through an authorized representative.
